Childhood friends, Polixenes, King of Bohemia and Leontes, King of Sicillia have spent nine months together reminiscing in Leontes’s court. On yearning for his own shores, Polixenes announces his departure, devastated by his friends wishes, Leontes employs his loyal wife Hermione to persuade his friend to stay a while longer.

While Hermione is successful in her mission, Leontes begins to harbour jealous and incriminating thoughts against his wife and long time best friend. Fleeing the country Polixenes leaves Hermione, her son and newly born daughter at the mercy of a tyrant king.
