Tom Ford, Guitarist has recently moved to the Isle of Wight and has taken the island by storm. Join us for an evening of Live Jazz from Tom Ford Quartet on Friday 5th April 7:30pm - 9:30pm (Doors 7pm) Drinks available form the tearoom

Tom Ford has often played with the resident band at Ronnie Scotts And regularly tours in the UK and Europe. He has a great musicality and versatility and it’s a joy to play alongside him . This evening will feature music by John Schofield Michael Brecker and Joe Henderson. There will also be beautiful jazz balads from the American song book. Taking the tempo upbeat and funky with material by Eddie Harris and Bob Berg.

This will certainly be a night to remember! Alongside Tom and Gary Plumley on Saxophone, we will have the extremely talented Jon Thorne on double bass and Wonderful drumming with Ken Black.

About:

Tom Ford majored in Jazz Composition and Performance at Berklee College of Music. He has worked across the spectrum with the likes of The Jonathon Silk Big Band, Chris Dave & The Drumhedz and British soul / jazz / hip-hop band Trope to name a few. He is no stranger to playing the UK’s top jazz venues (Ronnie Scott’s, 606 Club and Pizza Express) and jazz festivals (Cheltenham, Glasgow, Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul)

Gary Plumley, a professional Saxophonist since the age of twenty two, Gary's more recent highlights have been working along side Michael Kiwanuka on his award winning CD,  Going Home. There is a new recording with Sax Appeal with whom Gary has worked and recorded five cd,s over the last twenty five years. Gary spent twenty years touring and recording  several cd's with the late Terry Callier. http://youtu.be/dfC3IQ4w_Lk Gary recorded at least 10 CD's with Snowboy and the Latin Section Band. Gary's past has seen him working with such greats as: George Michael, Swing out sister, Lisa Stansfield, Four tops and also The Temptations Martha Reeves and the Vandellas to name but a few.. Gary has a broad soulful sound  emerging from his main influences of  R and B and various  Jazz styles to include: Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Michael Brecker and David Sanborn. In the last few years Gary has been travelling in India and pursuing his interest in the Bansuri Flute. He has also recorded his own CD Crossing the Water, which features original  compositions for  Clarinet, Flutes and Saxophones.  This recording is in a different style to any other CD's Gary has previously recorded, this sees him in a contemplative and meditative style. Often found teaching Jazz Workshops and lecturing on Improvisation and jazz techniques. Jon Thorne bought his first bass guitar from a schoolfriend at the age of 18 and was self-taught. He has studied and played jazz for a number of years following and considers Danny Thompson his bass mentor. Renowned as a passionate, energetic and highly skilled performer, Thorne's career as a double bassist has spanned a broad range of the musical spectrum. As bassist in the band Lamb since 1996, he has extensively used live double bass playing in electronic music and recorded 6 albums, toured 45 countries in 5 continents and played many of the world's leading music festivals including Coachella, Roskilde, Werchter, Glastonbury, Montreux Jazz, North Sea Jazz and NYC Central Park Summerstage. During the career of the successful group, Thorne acted as an unofficial third member with his most potent contribution on the group's second album Fear of Fours. He has performed on MTV USA, MTV Europe and BBC television/radio, and has had music used in various British and European film, television and advertising media.

Ken Black (drums & percussion), is highly respected for his Latin and jazz playing. He actually started his working life as a touring musician, travelling extensively for ten years and playing every style from rock to show bands and jazz. Windsurfing took over his life for a while but six years ago Ken started spending more time studying music and playing with various bands again, culminating in the collaboration with Gary and others.
