Fiona's artistic concerns are primarily about loss, and her most recent work specifically refers to the loss of her cultural identity at the nascent age of five. Having always struggled to feel that she belongs to any place or people, she is now creating her own identity through language, history, myths, totems and artefacts using mixed media in both two and three dimensions. Fiona says:
"Where I'm from, the land still recognises me, but to the people, I don't belong. Where I am, the people consider me one of them, but to the land, I'm a stranger. This feeling of belonging within a place and a culture is lost to so many people who have had to leave or been forced from their cultural roots. I'm trying within my creative practice to synthesise an internal place of belonging that I can carry with me wherever I go and thus feel content wherever I am."
