Vectis DFAS at the Quay kicks off their new seasons’ lectures with Sarah Deere-Jones using her own restored Regency pedal harp and the music of some forgotten 19th century harp composers. She will explain how the development of the double action pedal mechanism in 1810 lead to the harp becoming the most desired instrument in England, further illustrating this with the many beautiful paintings of Regency ladies and their harps, revealing how fashionable and elegant it was considered to be in England.

Her research has also led her to discover the lost English Regency instrument, the Harp- Lute, invented for harpists to use on the ‘Grand Tour’ but abandoned by 1840.

Sarah will perform authentically on two of her restored instruments using a repertoire she has uncovered from museums, libraries and private collections.

She is the only authentic performer on this rarely seen musical instrument and has performed in London for years with professional symphony, opera and ballet orchestras.
