Join Isle of Wight festival supremo Ray Foulk for the launch of his long awaited new book, ‘the Last Great Event’. It’s been a long time coming but finally this historical work sets the record straight about Britain’s greatest pioneering rock festival.
We pick up the story as amateur promoters, Ray and Ronnie are struggling to repeat the success of their great Bob Dylan festival of 1969 – and find there are no megastars to compare. The brothers go completely overboard and book a massive raft of stars including Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. They would go on to create the largest event in the World – Bigger than Woodstock, bigger than anything.
This most controversial festival takes its course over five days with up to 600,000 attending. The island MP is so outraged that he secures an act of parliament to prevent any repetition. The festival is the final hurrah of the Sixties, the last great gathering of the tribes. True to form Ray’s talk is fascinating with Q + As, live music, film and a little bit more, as well as an opportunity to meet one of the Isle of Wight’s true heroes.
