An outstanding collection of drawings, prints and paintings from Southampton City Art Gallery comes to Quay Arts for 'The Drawing Process' this autumn.

The collection, donated by the late Philip Schlee (1924-2011) comprises over 40 works by artists working in Britain between 1920 and 2004, including Frank Auerbach, David Hockney, Elisabeth Frink, Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland, Basil Beattie and Gillian Ayres.

Philip Schlee’s niece, Hannah Fussner who knows the works intimately, will provide a talk on the collection which includes over 140 works in its entirety.

The collection was conceived with a very practical question, ‘what role does drawing play in the work of artists?’ and intended as a resource for practitioners, students and artists, to help develop their thinking about, and uses of drawing.

The talk will be held in the Anthony Minghella Theatre, followed by a Q&A in the gallery on Sat 24th Oct 2 - 3pm.

No booking required, just turn up.

The Drawing Process exhibition continues until Saturday 9th January 2016, The West Gallery, Quay Arts.
