Following a sell out performance of The Elixir of Love, Ramshackle Pop-Up Cinema is showing it again at Lisle Combe by popular demand.
The details:
7.00 pm drinks, film starts 7.30pm on Thursday 14th May
Lisle Combe, Undercliffe Drive, St Lawrence, Isle of Wight, PO38 1UW
We’re screening L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love) from a recent acclaimed production at Glyndebourne. Donizetti’s light-hearted work from 1832 is a staple in the opera repertoire for its wit, charm and vocal fireworks. No-one can leave without a big smile on their faces! In this production the setting is updated to 1940s’ Italy.
Nemorino, a naïve village boy, is besotted with Adina, a farm owner. She rejects his declarations of love. Fortunately, the quack doctor Dulcamara is on hand with a ‘love potion’ to help him win her heart. Adina seems to remain immune to Dulcamara’s potion and agrees to marry the swaggeringly elegant, self-absorbed hearthrob Sergeant Belcore. Will the wedding go ahead? Or can Nemorino win Adina around? And what exactly are the ingredients of the elixir of love?
As with Romeo and Juliet, this is a beautiful High Definition recording by Opus Arte, and (after Bembridge) this is only the second time this will have been screened on the Island. You can see the trailer here:
Our screening is in the grand and historic setting of Lisle Combe at St. Lawrence, home of the famous Edwardian poet Alfred Noyes. Guests will be welcomed with a glass of wine and canapés. There will also be a cash bar at the interval.
Please get in touch with Robert and Ruth at Lisle Combe to reserve tickets, which are £12.50 each, including a glass of wine and canapés. [email protected] or 01983 852582
