Titfield thunderbolt

Freshwater Film Club present a special illustrated talk on Ealing Studios followed by: THE TITFIELD THUNDERBOLT (1953) (84 mins b/w) Dir: Charles Crichton Cast: Stanley Holloway, George Relph, Naunton Wayne, John Gregson & Hugh Griffith

When the residents of a small English village are about to lose their local branch line, they decide on a rescue plan to run the train themselves in competition with the local bus company. Without an engine their only recourse is to steal an old locomotive, Thunderbolt, from a museum.

This is Ealing comedy at its very best, with a cast of Britain’s finest comic actors and unusually for the studio) filmed in glorious colour by the great Douglas Slocombe.

It is so quintessentially post-war British that it couldn't have been made by anyone other than Ealing Studios. We dare you not to laugh out loud!
