Freshwater Film Club present this Special illustrated talk on WWI films - PATHS OF GLORY (1957) (88 mins - b/w) Dir: Stanley Kubrick Cast: Kirk Douglas, Ralph Meeker, Adolphe Menjou & George Macready
Douglas is the voice against reason when an arrogant French general (Macready) orders his men on a suicide mission and then has the gall to try to court marshal and execute three of them for cowardice in the face of the enemy.
This superb portrayal of the often futile events the Great War is a showcase for Douglas's acting talent and directorial masterpiece by the young Kubrick, whose control of sound effects and camera movement during the battle scenes bring the chaos of trench warfare to life.
