The West Gallery | Quay Arts | Thursday 18th September, 7.30 – 10.30pm

Experience the weird and wonderful world of Martin Creed in the form of music and spoken word on Thursday 18th September!

Join us for this special one-off closing event in the gallery with Turner Prize winning artist and musician Martin Creed and guest performers.

Martin Creed will kick off the event at 7.30pm, offering a background into his work through a talk and Q&A session (including guitar), followed by spoken word poetry pieces by IW youth group Flip The Script, drawing on Creed’s practice creating work from feelings rather than ideas.

There will be improvised flute performances by Louis Henry, Chair of the IW Music Centre Friends Association, followed by interpretive musing on Creed’s practice by philosopher Daniel Barnes.

The event will close with improvised music creations from The Adventurists – in the form of a string quartet with works inspired by Creed’s visual art.

These live elements allow us to engage with Creed’s work in the gallery and respond to it in a very different way; enabling us to cross-experience Creed’s practice through a range of artistic mediums.

"What the work means is not up to me; it’s what it means to someone else who has their own heart and their own history and their own mind. And I like that. I don’t put meaning into things. Meaning is something you find yourself." Martin Creed.

Exhibition continues till Saturday 20th September in The West Gallery. http://quayarts.org/event.aspx?id=4027
