'Line & Shade' is an exhibition showcasing the works of emerging Island artists Laura Hathaway and Howard Hardiman. Pieces are formed from extensive creative dialogue and exploratory discussions focusing around the subconscious, ritual, geometry and form. Laura's psychological, minimalist sculptural pieces and Howard's prints and paintings play against one another – a meticulous, obsessive process and transformation uniting their works.

Both artists have been working towards this joint exhibition since starting their Start-Up Studio residency at Jubilee Stores in April 2013. They have received creative mentoring over the past 12 months with Art Advisor Jonathan Parsons, aspex, Portsmouth to help develop their artistic practice. Start-up Studio was an initiative set up by Quay Arts for two artists sharing a studio space at Jubilee Stores for free, with access to creative mentoring for one year. The project aims to build the sector of artists and makers on the IW by supporting new creative businesses, and retaining and nurturing talent on the IW.
