Grandpa banana

Much-loved American musician Lowell Levinger - more popularly known as Grandpa Banana - will be playing at Dimbola Museum and Galleries on Monday, November 5th at 8.00pm to perform an acoustic concert.

This will be a first class evening of Californian Roots Americana.

Banana began his musical career on the bluegrass music circuit in the Boston area.

After being an accompanist to Mimi Farina for many years, in the late sixties and early seventies he gained international prominence as a founder member and guitar, keyboards and banjo player for The Youngbloods.

The other members of the band were Joe Bauer, Jesse Colin Young and Jerry Corbitt. Banana became an original 'Hippie from Olema' after the band re-located from New York to West Marin in California - the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.

As well as playing great music, Banana is now the proprietor of a vintage musical instrument business, so if you also have an interest in that subject please come and see him.

He is a real authority on guitars and mandolins.

Tickets for the Dimbola concert are £7.00 each and can be booked in advance by phoning 01983 730930.
