Several years ago, a photographer found some negatives in a junk shop. Artistically shot, they showed the life of a London couple during the 1920s and 1930s and included images of a holiday on the Isle of Wight. The names on the packets were Pavey and Gilbert.
Who was Pavey? Who was Gilbert?
Although the photographer eventually found out much more about them and was even able to reunite the photographs with members of their families, visitors to the exhibition will be encouraged to make up their own minds about the pictures and the people in them.
The setting for the exhibition is the imagined drawing room of Pavey and Gilbert where visitors can sit and look through photograph albums whilst the sounds of the photographs play in the background.
There will be activity sheets for younger visitors with a special box of objects for them to touch.
A writing competition for children and adults, inspired by the photographs, will run in conjunction with the exhibition.
More information will be available at www.paveyandgilbert.co.uk and at the exhibition itself.
