The Vectis Decorative & Fine Arts Society present James Tissot: the Art, Life and Love of a Victorian Painter by Tim Stimson

Doors open at 6.30pm. Light suppers and bar available. Lecture starts at 8pm until 9pm. Visitors welcome £8.00

Tissot reveals much about his personal life, in pictures that depict home, friends and loved ones, giving us a unique insight into the Victorian artist's world.

Art and the life of an artist are rarely so inextricably entwined. Tissot is renowned for his depiction of sophisticated society of Victorian London and Paris.

Mr Tim Stimson Art/Cultural Historian.

Tim’s involvement in art began with the practical; for a number of years he was a professional painter/ ceramicist in Scotland and Wales, before returning to university to study literature and the history of art, then training to teach adults. For the last 30 years he has been a freelance cultural/art historian, specialising in 17th and 19th century art and society. He now lectures for the university of Cambridge; the WEA, the Art Fund and NADFAS, and presents residential study courses in Britain and Europe. Tim recently completed a lecture tour of Australia and will be returning in 2016 for another tour.
