Public Forum – lead the way to an Age Friendly Island

Age Friendly Island (AFI) is an exciting new partnership that sits at the heart of the ‘Ageing Better’ programme working to overcome social isolation and help create inclusive and accessible environments for those in later life. With Lottery funding of £5.7 million the Isle of Wight has a unique opportunity to enhance vital aspects to life on the Island making it an ideal place to enjoy all it has to offer.

A fundamental part of creating an Age Friendly Island is the involvement of the Island community at every stage.

Anyone living or visiting the Island over the age of 50, as well as friedns, carers and interested parties, has the opportunity to lead the direction of the AFI project on the Isle of Wight. The chance to be part of a cohesive and pro-active community, the AFI Public Forum meetings at Ryde, Newport and Ventnor is one way for Islanders to help shape and direct the creation of an Age Friendly Island.

Our vision for an Age friendly Island is one where important aspects of island life including local communities, parks, council policies, public transport, health care services and housing are designed to help and support anybody over 50 to age actively. Enabling people to live safely enjoy good health and stay locally engaged. This is a 5 year project, so we hope that you will join us to lead this important initiative to support over 50’s to maximise life and the opportunities it offers.

Refreshments of sandwich and/or cakes with tea and coffee will be provided on the day and if you have any mobility issues we can provide transport to and from the meeting. For transport or more information about the three Public Forum meetings please contact Age UK Isle of Wight on 01983 525282 and ask for Jess or Lauren.
