The new Hop Kilns Heritage Centre at Briddlesford Farm, will open Saturday 29th November. Containing a free gallery and museum space supported by Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England, the centre will open with an exhibition by artist in residence, Tim Johnson.

The new centre will explore rural heritage at Briddlesford Lodge Farm and, more widely, contemporary and historical agriculture on the Isle of Wight for the benefit of the Island community, as well as visitors to the Isle of Wight.

The gallery will show a culmination of works created in residence by Island based artist Tim Johnson. Tim’s practice encompasses a variety of techniques and processes including sculpture, basketmaking, photography and performance, taking inspiration from nature, the landscape and our relationship to it. He has exhibited and participated in residencies extensively in the UK and internationally.

His exhibition titled ‘Invisible Pathways’ explores the intimacy of the relationship between the family that has worked this land over the years. The farm’s natural and manmade characteristics have provided the starting point for Tim’s installation. Taking inspiration from the pastures, hedgerows, cow tracks, woodlands and streams that make up Briddlesford, they have provided not only the raw materials for his making but also primarily a space for investigation and reflection.

Tim will be in the Hop Kilns Heritage Centre from 2pm until 7pm on Saturday 29th November, and visitors will be able to see him working, and hear how he approached the project. Partner in the farm business, Judi Griffin, will also be present to talk about the restoration project.

There will also be a showcase of original Island music from 7.30pm, featuring critically acclaimed Slombers Woke. Tickets are £12 and include a buffet. To book please contact Briddlesford Lodge Farm on 01983 882885.
